This series was made within a five day span on the island of Kauai, at the very beginning of the pandemic. Revisiting these images has brought up emotions that I wasn’t aware were still present - emotions of uncertainty surrounding my own safety or that of my family - who were supposed to meet me on the island, but weren’t able to due to travel restrictions.

Talk of Covid hadn’t yet reached the Hawaiian islands, however every scene I stumbled upon seemed post-apocalyptic. As the days went on, I began to fear that I might get stranded on this island and not be able to return to SF. Revisiting these images really brought back unsettled feelings from the beginning stages of the pandemic and the fear that suffocated so many of us.
